About Takataka Plastics
Takataka Plastics is an award winning plastic recycling social enterprise in Gulu, Uganda's second largest city. Takataka (which means “waste” in Swahili) provides a recycling service that currently does not exist in the city, while creating income opportunities for the marginalized, and reducing environmental and health hazards in places where waste is currently burned or littered.

Takataka currently employs more than 30 trauma survivors and at-risk youth as full-time plastic pickers. At the operations site all the collected plastic is extruded, moulded and converted into tiles, coasters, chairs and other products for which there is a local market demand. The recycling is carried out using locally manufactured or machines repurposed by Takataka Plastics’ engineers.powered verification tools.

About this collaboration
The purpose of this collaboration is to showcase how Dynamic Proof of Impact NFTs can be an effective web3 tool for social enterprises, in this case Takataka Plastics, to verify, record and communicate the impact generated by their operations. Additionally, Dynamic Proof of Impact NFTs can serve as an innovative fund-raising and marketing tool.

In this Proof of Concept collaboration a new Dynamic Proof of Impact NFT is minted once a week for 10 weeks. Each NFT shows the impact generated by Takataka Plastics during the previous 7 days. The data displayed shows the amount of plastic collected, the number and type of recycled end products produced, and the number of plastic pickers employed.
